Since Apple App Store will not allow me to download Sierra I then googled "Sierra Installer" hoping that I could find an installer (that is not an update). ![]() It displays the following error "Update not found: The requested version of macOS is not available". This is not possible since my Mac OS Catalina Macbook, through which I am writing this, thinks that I want to downgrade her OS to Sierra. In the guide it says to download Sierra through Apples App Store. I read apples guides on how to make a bootable installer for Mac OS. Having the damaged recovery option I am left with installing the OS through a bootable USB. By this point I noticed that I had damaged the recovery option as a whole. This is so you override the automatic internet recovery mode. To bypass this recovery mode you must press Cmd+Opn+R or something like that. So I turned the iMac and once again I was back to the spinning globe. About 15 minutes went by until the iMac rebooted and was left for 10 minutes in an apple logo grey screen. First the spinning globe appeared on the screen (recovery mode using the internet). I restarted the computer and the issues began. So I logged back in my wifi network but the recovery window was gone. I googled the error and noticed that my iMac disconnected from the wifi and could not download Sierra. This was the first error as recovery mode did not connect to the wifi and displayed an error. Once I did that I was to proceed to reinstall Sierra using the recovery mode. To make a fresh copy of Sierra I would need to delete the partition on my SSD. The second and foregoing paragraphs is where I am stuck now. The first paragraph is the detailed step by step on how I got myself stuck. I have done this many times before but this has got to be the worst I've stuck in mud. I wanted to install a fresh copy of Sierra. ![]() Hi, I am trying to freshly install a copy of Sierra on my Late 2010 iMac. I really appreciate all the help and good advice you gave me and hope that you can see my question again.īootable USB from a DMG (Sierra 10.12). I'm not sure how to find the recovery partition. I find the best way to do a major OS upgrade is:ġ) Use Disk Utility from the recovery partition to verify that your hard drive is working properly (no reported errors).ģ) Eject and disconnect the backup drive when the backup is done.Ĥ) Go to the MAIN PAGE of the App Strore, not the "Updates" tab.I find the opportunity for install errors is greater when using the OS upgrade option from the "Update" tab.ĥ) From the right side of the main page select "macOS Sierra" (see below):Ħ ) from there follow the on-screen prompts and instructions.ħ) Once the upgrade is complete and you are satisfied everything is running fine, reconnect the backup drive and make a new backup. You have more that enough hardware power to nicely run the most current OS version.Īllen Jones answered on 03/21/18 10:39 AM We have a 2011 21.5-inch iMac with the 2.5Ghz i5 processor and 8GB RAM and it runs as well with the current OS, 10.12.6, as it did with 10.8 with which it shipped. I had other questions too, but I don't need to know about those now. I remember seeing notices about upgrading when I would go into the App Store, but I was unsure whether it was a good thing to upgrade or not. I think this is the operating system my iMac came with. ![]() The Processor is 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5, and memory is 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3. This is my first Apple computer and I have questions about whether I should upgrade the operating system and if so, what should I do. He answered 3 days ago (3/21/18), but when I click on reply, nothing happens. I wanted to ask him another question about his response, but I was unable to. ![]() I asked this question previously and Allen Jones responded to me.
